How to dress up your kitchen countertops
If you are looking to dress your kitchen, this post is for you! Keeping your counter-top clean, pretty and clutter-free is the way forward. You should have as little as possible on your counter-top, whether you have a lot of space, or a little. There are two main components when it comes to styling a kitchen countertop.
In this week’s video, I share some of my all time favourite decorative items to dress a kitchen counter top.
The first component is identifying 8 key items you need to start styling.
1. Chopping boards
2. Canister Jars
3. Cookbooks
4. Fresh flowers/plants
5. Vase or pitcher jar to put your cooking utensils or fresh flowers/plants
6. Dinnerware, Drink ware or Glassware (think bowls, cups, plates for stacking or cute teapots)
7. Trays
8. Cake stands
Depending on the size of the kitchen countertop, you can either have them all or choose 3-5 items and divide them into 1-3 groupings in the space. Watch the video to see how I used the decorative items and divided them into 3 zones.
The second component is the technique of styling.
Group and layer your items for contrast and interest
Vary your heights and finishes to draw the eye in, up and around a vignette
Use colour and pattern in your accessories
Use accessories in odd numbers
Do not clutter your counter and keep your appliances hidden or find storage space for them
